The UK women’s golf team finished the first round of the Lady Kat Invitational Golf Tournament in fourth place with a one round total of 306 on Friday.

Senior Kelly Anders lead the Cats with an even-par-72 and fellow senior Eva Gessner was close behind with a two-over 74. Coach Stephanie Martin said she was pleased with the way the team performed in their first tournament of the year, but also said they can get better.

“I’m pretty happy with our first round,” Martin said. “We were under par for a while, but we had some trouble with a couple of holes. If we play like we were at the start and minimize our mistakes, we can come out and put up a lot better score in the second round.”

Other scorers for UK included Rachel Lester (77), Maggie Gabelman (86) and Stacy Springer (83).The second round will be Saturday. The Cats will tee-off at 9:15 a.m. at the UK Golf Club.
