After a Top 10 finish at last week’s Kiawah Island Invitational in South Carolina, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team heads to Toledo, Ohio this weekend for the 2002 Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo.

Coach Brian Craig is enthusiastic about the team’s trip to the Buckeye State.”This is a great opportunity for us,” he said. “We’ll be tested against a strong field. After playing kind of average at Kiawah Island, this will give us a chance to see where we stand.”

Among the 14 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament will be Southeastern Conference powers Florida and Georgia, who finished second and third respectively in the SEC last season.

South Carolina won the tournament in 2000, while last year’s tournament was cancelled due to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

The 7,255-yard, par 71, Inverness Golf Club was founded in 1903. It has hosted four U.S. Opens, one U.S. Amateur, two PGA Championships and will host the 2003 U.S. Senior Open.
