The Wildcats are now 4-1 all-time against WAC teams and 6-4 in home openers over the last 10 years.
It was the second-most points scored by UK in school history. It marked the first time UK had scored 70 points since the Bear Bryant era 51 years ago. The Wildcats scored 72 against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 15, 1951. Today’s effort was only the fifth time a UK team has totaled 70 points or more in a game. Previous highs included 83 vs. North Dakota (11-18-50), 72 vs. Tech, 71 vs. Southern Miss (9-17-49) and 70 vs. Xavier (10-5-46).
The Wildcats’ 2-0 start is their first since 1998 and the third time since 1989. The two wins equal the season totals in victories in each of the past two seasons.
UK held UTEP below 20 points, which marked the first time the Wildcats held consecutive opponents to less than 20 points since 1999, when the Cats limited South Carolina and LSU to less than 20 in each game.
UK amassed 364 yards rushing, the first time the Cats topped 300 yards rushing since they totaled 334 yards vs. Cincinnati in 1995.
The Wildcats scored 11 TDs with 10 different players. All totaled, 13 different Cats were credited with scoring 77 points. Eight players scored their first collegiate points.

UK had no offensive turnovers for the second straight game.

Senior RB Artose Pinner had 16 carries for 116 rushing yards, his fourth 100-yard rushing effort of his career.

True freshman Arliss Beach rushed nine times for 108 yards, a career best, as the Wildcats had two 100-yard rushers for the first time since 1985. That year, Mark Higgs had 125 yards and Marc Logan recorded 115 against Miss. State.

Sophomore K Clint Ruth scored his first collegiate point as a Wildcat when he made his first PAT in the first quarter. Ruth kicked off as a true freshman in 2000 before redshirting last season. He was 6-for-6 on PATs. Junior K Justin Hutton also scored his first points as a collegian, seeing PAT duty in the third quarter. He finished 3-3. Sophomore Sevin Sucurovic also saw his first action and made both of his two PATs.

Redshirt freshman QB Dan Lumley saw his first action as a Wildcat, guiding the squad to a fourth-quarter TD after scoring on a one-yard rush.

Aaron Boone caught his first pass of the season and his seventh TD of his career when he scored on a 35-yard reception in the first quarter.

WR Glenn Holt caught his first collegiate pass in the second quarter, a 12-yard TD reception. He later added a 16-yard rushing score. His third and final touch was a 22-yard KO return. WR Chris Bernard caught his first career TD pass, a 49-yard reception in the second quarter.

WR Derek Abney’s 68-yard TD reception was the longest of his career. Abney finished with three receptions for 80 yards and one score.

Junior FS Tim Funderburk and DE Vincent “Sweat Pea” Burns each made his first fumble recovery.

Senior Mike Kamphake, making his first collegiate start, scored his first collegiate TD with a 7-yard run in the third quarter.

The Wildcat mascot had a record 462 push-ups. It’s the most since he began his one-arm push-ups in the early 1980s.

UTEP Postgame Notes

It was the most points allowed by the Miners since Nov. 1, 1980, when BYU tallied an 83-7 win over UTEP in Provo.

UTEP has lost nine straight road games dating back to the 2000 season and is 0-13 in road openers since 1990.

WR Terrance Minor has scored TDs in back-to-back games for the first time in his college career.

Over the last four games, Howard Jackson has averaged 108.8 yards rushing.

UTEP is 1-6 all-time vs. the Southeastern Conference including 0-6 on the road.
