LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky seniors Angie Dal Pozzo and Beth Fogle were selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV Softball First Team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, marking the second consecutive season that two University of Kentucky student-athletes have made the district’s first team.
Dal Pozzo, a mechanical engineering major from Livingston, Ill., and a 2001 second-team Academic All-American, finished the season with a .278 batting average with nine doubles and 18 RBI. Carrying a 3.76 grade point average, she finished her career in the Bluegrass in the top five in the UK record books in hits (197), RBI (103), doubles (38), triples (10), home runs (9) and walks (50) while playing in 234 games. A member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll for three consecutive years and UK’s prestigious Society of Character, she was named to the All-District IV first team in 2001 and second team in 2000.
A Bogart, Ga., native, Fogle, a marketing major with a 3.55 GPA, finished this season with a career-high .360 batting average. She finished her career with 70 stolen bases, 112 runs scored and 185 hits in 212 games played. A three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, she was selected to the Academic All-American All-District IV second team in 2000 and was inducted into UK’s Society of Character in 2001.
Kentucky was the only school in the district to place a pair of students on the first team. Both Dal Pozzo and Fogle will join the 11 others from the district, which encompasses Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee, on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-American Softball Team, which will be announced June 6.
