Pitcher Jeff Little of Vanderbilt outdueled Kentucky’s Cory Hahn as the Commodores defeated the Wildcats, 3-1, Friday night at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn.

Little went the distance on the mound, improving his record to 5-6, while allowing just three hits and one unearned run. He struck out five, walked one, and faced only four batters over the minimum. He retired 18 of the last 19 batters he faced.

Hahn also pitched well for the Wildcats, surrendering only two earned runs while striking out one and walking three. His record is now 3-7.

Vanderbilt scored in the bottom of the first on a solo homer by Sean Luellwitz, his 10th round-tripper of the season. The Commodores made it 2-0 in the third as Jonathan Douillard led off with a single and eventually scored on a single by Scott Shapiro.

Kentucky got its lone run in the fourth when Brad Pickrell singled, went to third on a Seth Morris double, and scored on a throwing error by the rightfielder. Vanderbilt added an insurance run in the seventh when John Prothro reached on an error and scored on a single by Chris Broadus.

Vanderbilt is now 21-24 overall, 5-18 in the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky is 16-31, 5-20 in the SEC. The teams play again Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT. Joseph Blanton (4-6) will pitch for the Wildcats against Vanderbilt’s Steven Faulkner (3-3).
