Huntington, W. Va. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team fired a team score of 591 to find itself in third-place at the Marshall Invitational on Friday, April 5, in Huntington, W. Va. The Cats sit only six shots back of first-place Toledo with one round remaining in the two-day tournament.
Freshman John Holmes landed in second place after shooting a pair of 71’s to remain at even par. Holmes is only one shot back of tournament leader Kenny Cook of Ball State. Cook was the only player to remain under par after two rounds of play. Holmes is looking to tally his second straight first-place finish in as many tournaments. The Campbellsville, Ky., native walked away with medalist honors in last weekend’s Johnny Owens Invitational.
Other UK scores include senior Philip Schardein with a 148, junior Andy Dustman with a 149, Mark Blakefield with a 153 and junior Ryan Coyne with a 156.
The Marshall Invitational will conclude on Saturday when the final round is set to begin at 7:30 a.m.
