Baton Rouge, La. – The 13th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team suffered a set back on Monday, April 1, when it was defeated by a persistent LSU Tiger squad that refused to be beaten on their home courts in Baton Rouge, La. With the unexpected loss, the Cats fall to 13-5 on the season while LSU improves to the .500 mark at 9-9.

The Cats got off to a solid start by registering the opening point of the contest winning two of three doubles courts. The nation’s 50th-ranked doubles team of Lauren Rookledge and Leigh Bradwell tallied a doubles win along with the junior pair of Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley to give UK the lead.

The Wildcats’ momentum failed to carry into singles competition. UK only took matches on court five and six, while the Tigers were able to win on courts one through four to clinch a 4-3 LSU victory.

UK will look to bounce back on Friday, April 5, when the Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Lexington to take on the Cats at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on the UK campus. Action is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
