LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team opened the 2002 spring schedule with a four-game sweep of Marshall on Saturday, March 23 in Memorial Coliseum. After a joint morning practice session, the teams squared off with UK taking all four 30-point rally scoring games.
The Wildcats experimented with a variety of lineups during the scrimmage and were able to utilize the talents of 6-2 middle blocker Julie Davis for the first time since last spring. The redshirt freshman sat out the 2001 season rehabilitating an off-season knee injury. Also returning after missing much of the 2001season was junior Liz McCaslin.
“Although we did sweep all four matches against Marshall, we will more importantly use this scrimmage as a measurement of where we are at this time and what we need to do in order to keep moving forward,” Coach Jona Braden said.Leading the Cats in spring action is a talented group of rising seniors, including Kristen Batt, Aleisha Craven and Anne Koester.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, March 30, when they travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Spring Tournament. Kentucky takes on Indiana State at 9 a.m., IU at 10:10 a.m., Cleveland State at 11:20 a.m. and Indianapolis at 2:10 p.m. The playoffs begin at 3:20 p.m.
