Ann Arbor, Mich. – The 16th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team improved its record to 8-1 with a win over the Michigan Wolverines (3-3) in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday, Feb 16. The Cats claimed the doubles point and four singles matches to tally the 5-2 victory.

The Wildcats continued their streak of dominating doubles competition by sweeping all three doubles courts and taking the team point and control of the match at 1-0. UK has claimed the opening doubles point in each of its nine matches this season.

In singles action it continued to be all Wildcats as the UK Netters ran off four quick singles wins to clinch the dual match victory. Registering singles wins for the Cats were seniors Carolina Mayorga and Lauren Rookledge and juniors Sarah Witten and Jill Buckley.

“It is always satisfying to get a good win on the road,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “The team came out today and played focused, and the result was a win over a good Michigan team. We really need to try and keep up this type of intensity heading into the next few weeks.”

UK will now look ahead to a demanding portion of its schedule. On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Cats will host No. 10 North Carolina, before 8th-ranked Tennessee and top-ranked Georgia travel to the Bluegrass the weekend of March 1-3. All three matches will be held at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center on the UK campus.
