After two consecutive meets on the road, the 23rd-ranked University of Kentucky gymnastics team returns to the friendly confines of Memorial Coliseum as they welcome Ball State on Friday, Feb. 15. Action on the mats is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

UK (5-4, 0-2 Southeastern Conference) is coming off a 197.400-194.450 loss at No. 2 Georgia. Despite the loss, the score was the second highest of the season for the GymKats and improved their season-average to 193.812, keeping them in the top 25 for the sixth straight week. They also are ranked fifth in the Central Region.

Aronda Primault and Julie Joy paced the GymKats at UGA finishing third and fourth in the all-around competition. Primault is ranked fourth in the Central Region in the all-around, leading the team with a 38.931 average. She also leads the team on the floor exercise, averaging 9.835, while Joy is tops on the squad with a 9.825 bars average. UK also is led by Julia Gore on vault (9.792 average) and Jessie Lemp on beam (9.688).

Ball State (10-4) comes to the Bluegrass with a No. 34 national and a No. 10 Central Region ranking. The Cardinals are coming off a runner-up finish at the Circle of Stars meet where No. 29 Michigan State battled BSU for the title, winning out 193.375-193.300. However, BSU did topple 19th-ranked Ohio State and 25th-ranked Eastern Michigan.

Kentucky and Ball State have met seven times, with UK holding a 5-2 advantage. The last meeting came in a quad meet at Florida in March of last year. The GymKats claimed third place in that meet with a 193.700 to squeak past the Cardinals’ 193.500. The teams last met in Lexington in February of 1999 with UK coming out on top, 194.400-191.575.

Friday is “Wildcat Roundup Night” at the Coliseum. Fans are encouraged to wear their finest western wear. Also, a putting contest will be held to give away one brand new DVD player. Tickets will be available at the door and are $5 for adults and $2 for children in the eighth grade and below. Admission for UK students is free with a valid student ID.
