LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track & field squad closed out a successful showing at the Wildcat Invitational at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, Jan. 12. Sophomore Jeff Chakouian threw an NCAA-qualifying throw of 65-06.75 to take first place in the men’s shot put, while freshman Beth Heimann set a freshman school record in the 800-meter run with her first-place time of 2:10.84.

Other Wildcats enjoying success in the closing day of the meet were Thomas and Jack Morgan, who finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s one-mile run. Freshman Warren Wilson finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in his first meet with the Cats. The football player turned in a time of 8.12 in the race, just ahead of Bryan Wilson’s 8.17 sixth-place showing.

Another gridiron Cat, Ernest Sims, had a solid day for UK, finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.83. It was Simms’ first track meet in nearly three years. Hunter Spencer had a good showing in the 800-meters, finishing second with a time of 1:50.85.

On the women’s side, freshman Elizabeth Kittredge took third place in the pole vault with a jump of 10-08.00, while fellow frosh Genessa Guzman finished fifth in the women’s shot put with a toss of 44-01.25. Junior Simidele Adeagbo finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18-11.50.

Closing out UK’s stellar day was sophomore Caitlin Phillips’ fifth place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:08.57.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the SEC East Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
