Day One Results
The University of Kentucky track & field squad had a successful opening day of the Wildcat Invitational at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., on Friday, Jan. 11. Junior Simidele Adeagbo’s triple jump distance of 42-01.50 provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships and took first-place honors.
Also enjoying success in the meet’s first day were three women’s weight throwers. Freshmen Nicole Allyn and Gennessa Guzman and senior Aisha Smith each broke the previous school record in the event. Allyn finished third in the competition with a throw of 57-03.50, while Smith took fourth place with her throw of 57-01.00. Guzman finished fifth with a toss of 56-11.50 as each athlete set a personal best on the evening.
The distance medley team of Jack Morgan, Chad Johnson, Paul Ciurlys and Hunter Spencer took first place in the men’s finals with a time of 9:54.40. Another UK squad, comprised of David Freeman, Patton Segraves, James Doaty and Thomas Morgan, finished second with a time of 9:57.18.
Senior Bill Powers finished third in the men’s weight throw with a personal-best toss of 59-02.25. Junior Janet Crawford rounded out the Wildcats’ performances with a third-place showing in the women’s high jump.
Action continues on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s high jump. The event is free to the public and wraps up Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. with the women’s 4×400-meter relay finals.
