University of Kentucky gymnast Aronda Primault was named the first Southeastern Conference Gymnast of Week for 2002 on Tuesday, Jan. 8, the league office announced. The honor is the second of Primault’s career.

Primault, a sophomore from Canton, Ohio, helped lead the GymKats to a season-opening victory against Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 5. She claimed the floor and vault titles, while finishing fourth on the bars. Her career-high 9.925 on floor secured the victory for UK in the last rotation after OSU had taken the lead after three rotations.

“This is just an outstanding accomplishment, especially since it was the first meet of the year,” Coach Leah Little said. “This should be a real confidence booster for her as the season progresses.”

Primault was last named Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 13, 2001, after leading UK to a school-record team score of 195.875 against Illinois.

UK returns to action when it faces N.C. State at the Bahama Breeze Invitational on Friday, Jan. 11 in Nassau, Bahamas.
