Kentucky improves to 9-2 as the Wildcats win their third in a row. Tulane is now 8-3 and has lost two in a row.
Kentucky now leads the series 40-5 and has won eight straight over the Green Wave. UK is 8-0 against Tulane in games played in Louisville.
Kentucky controlled the game from the outset with a 19-4 run to open the game. The Wildcats opened the second half with a 13-2 run to put the game away.
Kentucky broke the 100-point mark for the second time this season. The Wildcats defeated Kentucky State 118-63 on Dec. 15. UK has eclipsed 90 points in six of 11 games this season.
Kentucky outrebounded Tulane, 44-32. The Wildcats have outrebounded every opponent this season with the exception of the season opener.
Kentucky bagged 16 three-pointers, the most for UK in the Tubby Smith era. The previous high in the Smith era was 14 against Tennessee last season and against Vanderbilt in 1999. It’s the most since UK hit 16 against UNC Asheville in Dec. ’96. Nine Wildcats hit at least one three-pointer. Six Wildcats tied their career highs for three-pointers made: Rashaad Carruth (three), Cliff Hawkins (two), Josh Carrier (one), Marquis Estill (one), Chuck Hayes (one), and Matt Heissenbuttel (one).
Sophomore guard Gerald Fitch had his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. It is the second double-double of his career.
Senior forward Tayshaun Prince tallied a game-high 22 points. It is his fourth 20-point game of the season and 18th of his career. In the process, Prince moved to 17th place on the UK career scoring list with 1,420 points, passing Kyle Macy (1,411) and Winston Bennett (1,399).
The Wildcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 5, at Mississippi State. The Southeastern Conference opener will be televised by Jefferson-Pilot Sports at 2 p.m. EST. This will be Kentucky’s first “away” game of the season after seven home games and four neutral site games.
