LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming team signed three recruits during the fall signing period, UK Coach Gary Conelly announced Wednesday. Joanna Chetcoti-McLean, Breannan Moore and Jamie Saxe will all join the women’s team in August 2002.

Chetcoti-McLean is a sprinter out of Toronto, Ontario, who swims for Coach Kevin Thorburn and Etobicoke Swim Club. A senior at Silverthorne Collegiate Institute, her best events include the 50-meter freestyle (26.67) and the 100-meter freestyle (58.9), and she also swims the backstroke.

Moore comes to the Cats from Spartanburg, S.C., where she swims for Spartaquatics and coaches Scott Dunn and Mike Faltraco. A senior at Spartanburg High School, she is primarily a backstroke specialist who also swims the 400 IM and the mile. Her personal best in the 200 backstroke (2:02.3) would rank among UK’s best all-time while her 100 backstroke time (58.5) ranks just outside of UK’s top 10.

Saxe comes to the Cats from Wildwood, Mo. An all-around swimmer, her middle distance freestyle (1:51.9 in the 200 and 4:56.1 in the 500) and her backstroke times (58.8 in the 100 and 2:03.7 in the 200) are her best events. The 200 backstroke time and her personal best in the 400 individual medley (4:26.1) would both rank on UK’s top-10 lists. She currently swims for the Rockwood Swim Club and is coached by Jim Haliburton.

“We are very excited about the three women that we are bringing in,” Conelly said. “All three have the ability to step in next year and make immediate contributions.”
