Sarah Witten, a junior on the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team, was honored as the PNC Bank Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 24. PNC Bank sponsors the weekly award, which recognizes a UK Student-Athlete who has achieved in both athletics and the classroom.

Witten, a Naples, Fla., native, is an elementary education major. She was named to the dean’s list in the spring of 2001 and was a member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2000-01 season. Witten has volunteered her time at several area organizations, including the UK Children’s Hospital, the “Take a Kid to the Ballgame” program and Schoolhouse Rock, an academic pep rally.

Although the 2001-02 season is young, Witten has already racked up several impressive titles. Along with doubles partner Carolina Mayorga, Witten has earned the doubles title at both the University of Tennessee/ St. Mary’s Health Care Classic and the Vanderbilt University/ June Stewart Invitational.
