Oxford, Miss. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (9-5-0/3-3-0 Southeastern Conference) scored two first-half goals to hold off Mississippi (8-6-1/3-2-0), 2-1, at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium on Friday night.
Freshman forward Kathy Fulk scored for the first time in six games and senior midfielder Annie Gage sealed the victory with her 28th career goal, ascending to a second-place tie with Carrie Staber (1995-98) on UK’s career goals scoring list. Former Wildcat Kim LaBelle owns the record of 44 set between 1994-97.
“We really needed this one tonight, it feels great to get back in the win column,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “After playing three tough games and only getting one goal on so many opportunities, it was nice to finally see our hard work pay off tonight.”
The Wildcats improve their series record over the Rebels to 5-0 and will continue SEC action this Sunday as UK travels to Starkville, Miss. to battle Mississippi State on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. ET.
