Carolina Mayorga, a senior on the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team, advanced to the final round of qualifying at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The Bogot?, Colombia, native failed to surrender a set in her first two contests to advance to the final match of the qualifying round. Mayorga defeated 87th-ranked Ana Radeljavic of Old Dominion 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round before downing Northwestern’s Marine Piriou by the same score in the second round. She will battle Saras Arasu of Duke on Wednesday, Oct. 10, for a spot in the tournament’s main draw.

While Mayorga needs a win to earn a position in the main draw of the singles tournament, her spot in the doubles main draw has already been solidified. She and partner Sarah Witten comprise the nation’s 10th-ranked doubles team. The duo has already been given a position in the main draw without having to compete in the qualifying rounds. The tandem will begin its quest for the doubles championship when doubles play begins on Thursday, Oct. 11.
