No. 15 KENTUCKY WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM TO PLAY HOST TO UTAH
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 15th ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (5-0-0/1-0-0 Southeastern Conference) will play host to the University of Utah (2-1-0/0-0-0 Mountain West Conference) on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. It is the inaugural game between the two institutions.
“Utah is a very disciplined, well-coached team that has played nationally ranked programs in Florida (No. 20) and Arizona State (No. 23) this season,” UK Coach Warren Lipka said. “They bring all 11 starters back from last year and there is no substitute for experience. Having not played in 14 days, they’ll be ready to come at us.”
Kentucky, currently ranked at No. 15 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Coaches Poll, is off to its best start in the program’s 10-year history at 5-0-0. In their last match, the Wildcats defeated Murray State, 4-1, at the UK Soccer Complex on Monday, Sept. 17. Four different Cats (Aimee Brown, Kate Qually, Susie Ledzianowski, and Jen Wilkinson) scored goals and freshman forward Kathy Fulk became the first Wildcat to amass 10 points on the season by recording two assists in the win over the Racers.
Utah, one game back of Brigham Young (3-1-0) in the Mountain West standings, has not played since a 1-0 overtime victory over No. 23 Arizona State on Friday, Sept. 7 in Salt Lake City. The Utes are led by first-team All-Mountain West Conference senior forward Amy Kefoed who ranks second in Utah career goals (34) and is on target to break the school record (38) this season.
The Wildcats will complete the weekend slate by playing host to the Buckeyes of Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. Complete game stories and box scores can be obtained following each game at ukathletics.com.
