KENTUCKY WOMEN’S SOCCER ASCENDS IN NATIONAL RANKINGS

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team jumped two spots in the Soccerbuzz.com poll to No. 23 in the nation and also has been recognized for the first time this season by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Coaches Poll at 24th for the week ending Sept. 2.

“It’s nice that we are getting some national recognition,” Coach Warren Lipka said. “We are 2-0 and ranked, and that makes us a marked target for our competition. They’ll be trying even harder to knock us off – we have to answer the challenge on the field and live up to the rankings that have been given to us.”

Kentucky improved its record to 2-0-0 (1-0-0 Southeastern Conference) by defeating Vanderbilt, 1-0, at the Vanderbilt Soccer Field in Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday, Sept. 2. Sophomore midfielder Alli Haeussler found the net off a UK corner kick from senior Annie Gage to seal the win for UK with seven minutes remaining in the match.

In the season opener versus Marshall at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday, Aug. 31, the Wildcats received the game-tying goal from senior midfielder Susie Ledzianowski and the game-winner when freshman forward Kathy Fulk dented the net at the 78:26 mark to earn the 2-1 victory.

The Cats will next travel to Michigan to play the Wolverines on Friday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. UK will complete the weekend slate in East Lansing, Mich., when it faces Michigan State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Complete game stories will be posted on ukathletics.com.
