LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team will hold its annual Blue-White scrimmage on Saturday, August 25, at 2 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
The 2001 campaign marks the 25th season of volleyball at Kentucky, as the Cats look to seniors April Barnhorst and Whitney Sample for leadership. The senior class marks the first group that Coach Jona Braden has guided entirely through their career. The Wildcats will also look to the help of other returners along with a strong crop of newcomers, including junior transfer Anne Koester, a 6-4 outside hitter who spent the last two seasons at Illinois.
Fans will notice changes in Saturday’s playing format, reflecting rule changes in college volleyball this season. All five games will be played in rally-scoring format, with the first four games going to 30 points with the final tiebreak game standing at 15. Players also will be able to play on a let-serve, something that was illegal before this season.
UK begins regular-season play on Friday, September 31, when the team travels to Dallas, Texas, to compete in the Southern Methodist Invitational. The Cats play host SMU at 7 p.m. on Friday before facing both Weber St. and Duke on Saturday.
Kentucky’s first home match will be Tuesday, September 4, when the Wildcats play host to intrastate rival Western Kentucky at 7 p.m.
