“Bear’s Boys” Reunion This Week:
The “Bear’s Boys” group of Kentucky football alumni will have a reunion this weekend, June 21-23, in Lexington.
The “Bear’s Boys” are former Wildcats who played for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant during his 1946-53 term of service at UK. The “Bear’s Boys” have been having a reunion since the 1980s, currently meeting every two years.
There will be a reception/dinner beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Suites hotel. There will be a cookout at the K-House, next to Commonwealth Stadium, Saturday at 6:15 p.m. The reunion is being organized by John Griggs.
“Bear’s Boys” who have registered to attend include Harry “Chug” Rogers, J. C. Kennard, Ken Lutz, Dick Mitchell, Dick Holway, Bill Pesci, Tommy Adkins, Bob Gain, Charlie Bentley, Herbie Hunt, Emery Clark, Gene Meeks, John Baldwin, Frank Sadler, Jim Miller, Bob Fry, John Griggs, George Blanda, Neil Lowry, Ed Hamilton, Clayton Webb, Chet Lukawski, Al Bruno, Joe Koch, Jim Bowie, O. E. Philpot, Don Netoskie, Steve Meilinger, Jim Proffitt, Bill Evans, Chuck Bell, Lee Truman, John Netoskie, George “Chink” Sengel, Dick Rushing, Bill Boller, Leonard “Babe” Ray, Bill Schaffnit, Ben Zaranka, Ed Burnett, and Clyde Carlig.
One of Bryant’s former coaches, Joe Atkinson, also plans to attend.
“Meet the Guy Tour” Continues:
The UK Alumni Association “Meet the Guy Tour” continues with Coach Guy Morriss visiting UK alumni clubs around the South. Here is the upcoming schedule, with all times local:
Wednesday, June 20, Nashville UK Alumni Club:

Tuesday, June 26, Mason County UK Alumni Club:
Reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Maysville Country Club on U.S. 68. The cost is $10 per person. For reservations, call Jim Stice at 606-759-9244.
Wednesday, June 27, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky UK Alumni Club: Reception at 6:30 p.m. at the Turfway Park “Racing Club,” 7500 Turfway Road in Florence, Ky. The cost is $5 for members, $8 for non-members. For reservations, call Pat Golden at 513-722-3092.
Friday, June 29, Greater Atlanta UK Alumni Club:

The ‘Cats are Back: Most of the Wildcats have returned to Lexington for summer school, summer jobs, and/or strength and conditioning workouts. The eight-week summer-school session goes from June 7 to Aug. 2.
