The ‘Cats are Back: Most of the Wildcats return to Lexington this week for summer school, summer jobs, and/or strength and conditioning workouts. Exams for the current four-week summer school session are on June 5. The eight-week session goes from June 7 to August 2.

Stadium Surface Update: Construction continues on the new playing surface at Commonwealth Stadium. The current activity involves the installation of drainage lines. The drainage lines will be covered with gravel, then approximately 12 inches of soil. Sprigging of the Bermuda grass will take place in June.
Whalen Named to 20-Year All-SEC Team: Lindy’s Southeastern Football magazine, which has reached its 20th year of existence, has selected Kentucky tight end James Whalen to its 20-Year All-SEC Team for the years 1982-2001.Whalen played for Kentucky from 1997-99. His career totals feature 120 receptions for 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns. Whalen had a rags-to-riches story at UK, coming as an unknown walk-on and leaving as a first-team All-American. In his senior season, he caught 90 passes more than any tight end in NCAA history for 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns. Whalen played for the Dallas Cowboys last season. He remains under contract with the Cowboys while playing currently for the Scotland Claymores of the NFL Europe league.
