BOWLING GREEN – The University of Kentucky baseball team began a five gameroad swing losing to intra-state rival Western Kentucky, 9-2, on Tuesdaynight at Nick Denes Field.

The loss was the fourth consecutive for the Cats, whose record dropped to11-15 on the season. Western Kentucky improved to 18-9 with the victory.

Things looked good for UK early, as the Cats jumped on the Hilltoppers withtwo runs in the first inning. With runners at the corners, Caleb Brocklined a double into the left-center field gap, plating both runners andputting UK up 2-0.

Cat starter Cory Hahn escaped the first inning unscaved, but ran intotrouble in the second frame. With one runner aboard, WKU center fielderDavid Lower homered to left field, evening the contest 2-2.

UK threatened again in the fourth, but was unable to capitalize, strandingtwo runners on base.

The Hilltoppers would blow the game open in the bottom half of the fourthinning with four runs, all coming with two outs. Aided by two bloopsingles, WKU took a 6-2 lead that starting pitcher Kevin Sadowski would notrelinquish.

WKU would add two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, making thefinal tally 9-2.

The Cats would only manage two hits over innings five through nine as theWKU bullpen slammed the door.

Sadowski picked up the win for WKU, his first of the season, by going 6innings, allowing only five hits and two earned runs. Hahn suffered theloss for the Cats, falling to 2-2 on the campaign. Hahn went four innings,giving up eight hits and six earned runs while striking out five.

Kentucky will attempt to avenge Tuesday’s loss to the Hilltoppers when thetwo teams meet again April 18 in Lexington. UK’s will be back in actiontomorrow, March 28, at Xavier University. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
