The University of Kentucky baseball team will play host to the University of Tennessee at Martin in a two-game series beginningMarch 13, at 3 p.m. at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The Cats are coming off a 2-1 series win over Ole Miss in the Southeastern Conferenceopening series last weekend.
UK (8-8, 2-1 SEC) has won six of its last seven games after starting the season dropping seven of the first nine. Tuesdays game willbe the first of six consecutive home games for the Cats, kicking off UKs longest homestand of the 2001 season.
Six Wildcats will enter the Tennessee-Martin series carrying hitting streaks of five games or better. Caleb Brock leads the Cats with a.370 batting average and 10-game hit streak. Seth Morris is right behind Brock with a nine game hitting streak, having homered in thelast two ballgames. Vince Harrison and Jeff Tolotti have hit streaks of seven and six games, respectively, while Gordon Tyler andSpencer Preston have both hit safely in five straight contests.
The Wildcat pitching staff continues to be the backbone of the squad, posting a team ERA of 3.54 while holding its opponents to a.241 batting average. UK hurlers have struck out 109 batters and issued only 65 bases-on-balls.
Tennessee-Martin stands at 2-13 on the season but has won one of its last two games. The Skyhawks have struggled at the plate thisseason, posting a team batting average of .209, and have scored only 43 runs in 15 contests (2.87 per game). The upcomingtwo-game series will mark the sixth and seventh consecutive games that UT-Martin has played on the road.
Cory Hahn is scheduled to be the Wildcat starting pitcher on Tuesday. Hahn is 1-1 on the season with a 4.82 ERA and has struckout nine batters in only 9 1/3 innings of work. Hahn will be opposed by Skyhawk left-hander Jonathon Spiceland. Spiceland is 1-0on the season with a 2.08 ERA.
