On the first day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the University ofKentucky men’s distance medley relay team scored the team’s first points with a seventh-placefinish on Friday, March 9, at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on the campus of the University ofArkansas.

The quartet of freshman James Doaty and sophomores Hunter Spencer, Chad Johnson andThomas Morgan entered the meet with the 10th-best time in the country; however, their time of9:41.18 was earned them seventh place.

In the men’s 800-meter preliminaries, Doaty and fellow freshman David Freeman failed toqualify for Saturday’s finals with times of 1:53.78 and 1:57.44, respectively.

UK returns to action on Saturday, March 10, when freshman Jeff Chakouian attempts to winhis first national collegiate title in the shot put and sophomore Simidele Adeagbo competes in thewomen’s triple jump. The men’s shot gets underway at 5:30 p.m. EST while the women’s triplejump commences at 5:45 p.m.
