The University of Kentucky women’s golf team is in 17th place at theLady Gator Invitational following the opening round of action on Friday,Feb. 23, in Gainesville, Fla.
Georgia’s Reilley Rankin narrowly leads all competitors with herfirst-round total of 2-under-par 70, while five golfers are tied for secondwith par scores of 72. Auburn leads the team competition with afirst-round total of 292 and holds only a one-stroke lead over Georgia,who has second place with a 293.
Sophomore Rachel Lester leads the Wildcat lineup with a first-roundscore of 77, which ties her for 33rd place. Sophomore Kelly Anders’ 79ties her for 58th, while junior Towa Okiyama’s 84 puts her in 84th goinginto Saturday’s second round. Rounding out the UK lineup are juniorKristen Pepe, who is in 88th place with an 85, and senior JennyThrogmorton, who struggled in the opening round and landed in 89thplace with a total of 88.
Action continues tomorrow at the Florida Golf Course and is set towrap up on Sunday.
