TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Kentucky softball team defeated Oklahoma State 3-2 Sunday in its final game in the University of Arizona Tournament. UK was 3-2 in the three-day round-robin tournament and improved its overall record to 4-6.

Oklahoma State scored in the first inning when junior Jenny Kip singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Ryan Realmuto. Kentucky rebounded to tie the score in the second when freshman Rachel Friberg and junior Andi Eilertson recorded back-to-back doubles. The Cats took the lead after a single by Jen Howland and an RBI bunt by second baseman Nikki Jones drove in Eilertson.

The Cowgirls evened the score on a Danielle Thomas home run in the seventh inning. The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the seventh as shortstop Angie Dal Pazzo drove a game-winning single down the left field line to score outfielder Beth Fogle. Fogle had reached on an infield error and advanced to third on a walk and groundout. Morgan Marr was the winning pitcher for Kentucky.

“I was pleased with our overall performance throughout the weekend,” said UK coach Beth Kirchner. “Our defense made some great plays and (shortstop) Angie Dal Pozzo had an incredible defensive game today. The pitching staff made tremendous strides from last weekend and our offense continues to be productive.”

Kentucky travels to Chattanooga, Tenn., to play in the Choo-Choo Tournament Friday, Feb. 23, through Sunday, Feb. 25.
