TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Kentucky softball team defeated Bowling Green State, 3-2, then fell to host Arizona 12-1 in the University of Arizona Tournament Saturday.
Kentucky (3-6) was down 1-0 to Bowling Green in the fourth inning when, after her triple, Angie Dal Pozzo scored to tie the game. Bowling Green scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. UKs Rachel Friberg scored the game-tying run in the sixth inning, and Leslie Kwiatkowski scored the game-winning run in the seventh. Monique Lovell was the winning pitcher, allowing only five hits in the game.
In the nightcap, Kentucky fell to third-ranked Arizona (13-0), which allowed only the second run by an opponent this season. Arizona scored one run in the first inning, then added six more runs in the second with the help of two homers, as it cruised to the victory, which ended in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule. Dal Pazzo scored UKs only run in the fifth inning.
Kentucky takes on Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. ET Sunday at the University of Arizonas Hillenbrand Stadium.
