Cats Looking to End Season on Winning Streak

The University of Kentucky volleyball team will conclude its’ 2000 season tonight when they face archrival Louisville at 7 p.m. at Cardinal Arena in the Conference USA Challenge.

UK (6-20) has won its’ last two matches and hopes to avenge an earlier season loss at the hands of the Cards.

In Friday night action, the Cats swept past Marquette University 3-0 (15-13, 15-11, 15-9). That win followed the Big Blue’s victory over Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference finale on Nov. 12. The Kentucky defense held Marquette to a .112 hitting percentage on Friday, the second-lowest any opponent has hit for against the Cats. April Barnhorst provided excellent net play recording one solo block and four block assists.

Senior Megan Weiskircher led the Cats attack on Friday recording her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 15 digs. Kristen Batt also posted a double-double with 15 kills and a team-high 17 digs.

Today’s opponent, U of L (24-7), is coming off a Friday night victory over Eastern Kentucky University. The Cards have earned a birth in the NCAA Tournament field as a result of winning the Conference USA Tournament.

This will be the final match for UK seniors Weiskircher, Melissa Kracht, Stephenie Taylor and Stacey Wallace.

UK leads the all-time series with U of L 26-15.
