The University of Kentucky women’s golf team signed two recruits for the fall signing period, head coach Bettie Lou Evansannounced today. Lauren George, of Uniontown, Pa., and Stacy Springer, a native of St. Charles, Ill., have each decided to continuetheir golf careers at UK next fall.

George, a two-time Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Athlete of the Week, is a four-year member of the Pennsylvania GirlsChampionship team, where she medalled three times. George is also a four-year letterwinner for the Uniontown Area High Schoolboys’ golf team.

Springer, a senior at St. Charles High School, is a member of the1999 state champion golf squad. At the championships,Springer notched a third place finish with a two-day total of 159. Springer is an ace in the classroom, ranking among the top twopercent in her class of more than 700. She serves as president of the National Honor Society. Springer also considered Missouri,Louisville and Kansas State before deciding on the blue & white.

I am extremely pleased with the signing of Lauren George and Stacy Springer, head coach Bettie Lou Evans said. I havewatched both young ladies compete, and I know their capabilities. For that reason I feel that they will make an immediate impact onour women’s golf program, and I look forward to them joining us.

The two athletes are the first signees of the 2001 recruiting class and will enroll at UK in the fall of 2001.
