Hanson Named Semifinalist for Lou Groza Award: Junior kicker Seth Hanson has been named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, which goes to the nation’s best kicker.

He banged home a career-high three field goals against Georgia. He has made 19 of 20 extra points and is the team’s leading scorer with 52 points. Seth also handled double duty as the team’s starting punter through the first eight games, averaging 37.1 yards per punt.
Hanson’s career numbers also are impressive. He has made 26 of 34 field goals in his career. He holds UK career records for most extra points made (97) and attempted (102). In 1998, he set UK single-season records for extra points made and attempted and most points by a kicker (81). He has 175 points in his career, third-best in UK history.
Hanson also has been very active in community service. He serves as president of UK’s Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was named to the 1999 National Good Works Team, as chosen by the American Football Coaches Association, and the 1999 SEC Good Works Team in honor of his community service. He is held in high esteem by his fellow students and last weekend was elected “Homecoming King” by the UK student body. Also a high performer in the classroom, he is a two-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Lorenzen has 264 pass completions this season and needs 19 completions to break the NCAA record for most completions by a freshman. Mike Romo of Southern Methodist set the current NCAA mark of 282 completions by a freshman in 1989.
