Winston Salem, N.C. – The University of Kentucky womens tennis doubles team of BrookeSkeen and Lauren Rookledge advanced to the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis AssociationSoutheast Regional Championship on the campus of Wake Forest University on Sunday.
The duo defeated 9th-ranked Alison Ojeda and Vilmarie Castellvi of Tennessee 7-6,7-6 to claim a spot in the finals. This marks the second time that Skeen has played inthe Regional Championship game. The Wildcats lone senior was joined with formerTennis Cat Christy Sigurski in her sophomore season to become regional runner-up in1998.
This is the first tournament that Skeen and Rookledge have teamed up to playdoubles as they face Amanda Johnson and Megan Miller of Duke, the tournaments3rd-seed, in the finals. The final match is Monday at 11 a.m., with the winneradvancing to the ITA National Indoor Championship in Dallas in February.
It is very impressive for Brooke to accomplish this feat two times and for Lauren tojump into such a high level of doubles competition and not miss a beat, Coach MarkGuilbeau said. This team has great individual skills and they come together well as apair. Regardless of tomorrows outcome, this is a great way to wrap up our fallseason.
Four Cats also saw singles action on Sunday. Skeen, Rookledge, Carolina Mayorgaand Sarah Witten were all eliminated from the singles bracket by seeded opponents intheir quarterfinal match-ups.
