University of Kentucky men’s tennis players Edo Bawono and Gustav Pousette had a successful day at the Region III Championships in Athens, Ga., on Thursday, Nov. 2. Both advanced to the round of 32, which will be played on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Bawono, a senior from Jakarta, Indonesia, continued his successful fall run, defeating Louisiana State’s John Pugh instraight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Bawono, who was seeded in the tournament and received a first-round bye, will face the No. 1seeded Matias Boeker from Georgia on Friday at 9 a.m.
Pousette knocked out first round opponent Ross Greenstein of Florida, 6-3, 6-2, before facing Gator West Nott.Pousette won the exciting first set before giving a commanding second set performance and taking the match, 7-5, 6-0.
The doubles tandem of Bawono and Pousette toppled first round opponents Killen and Allen of Centenary, 8-2. Theteam will face Paul Podbury and Wade Orr from Tennessee in Friday’s second round.
“I’m really impressed with the way our guys played today,” Associate Head Coach Ford Lankford said. Edo is reallyputting things together nicely on the court, and Gustav had commanding performances against two tough SEC opponents.I’m really looking forward to seeing them play tomorrow.
Action continues through Sunday’s final singles and doubles matches. This marks the final competition of the fallseason for the Wildcats.
