The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team dropped a very physical,hard-fought match to top-ranked Indiana, 2-0, on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the UKSoccer Complex.
The Cats (7-6-0) played even with the Hoosiers (12-3-0) for the first 30 minutes ofthe game as both teams had difficulty putting together any offense. UK was able tokeep the ball in the IU end of the field, but the Hoosier defense prevented anylegitimate threats.
IU took control of the match at the 30:13 mark when Tyler Hawley headed in aRyan Mack pass for the 1-0 lead. Just over 32 minutes later, Hoosier Pat Noonanscored from eight yards out to set the final margin.
The game was extremely physical as the teams combined for 28 fouls, sevenyellow cards and one red card. This activity helped limit the offense of both sides, asthe Hoosiers outshot the Cats 12-7.
UK looks to rebound on Friday, Oct. 20, when it hosts Mid-AmericanConference-rival Bowling Green. The contest is important in the Cats’ endeavor toremain atop the MAC and earn a first-round bye in the league tournament. Thewomen’s team leads off action against LSU at 5:30 p.m., with the men following at 8p.m.
