Women's Tennis

(Oct. 7, 2000) — The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team did not fare well on October 7 at the annual St. Mary’s Health Care Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.

UK junior Lauren Rookledge fought hard, but was defeated by 17th-ranked Jessica Lehnoff of Florida 6-4, 6-4 in the top flight of the tournament. Fellow Wildcats Jill Buckley and Shannon Stafford also lost matches in their respective flights. Purdue’s Mellisa Iqbal defeated Buckley and Stafford was defeated by Kristin Nicholls of N.C. State.

The UK doubles pair of Rookledge and Buckley also lost in their consolation match to Kim Gates and Crystal Cleveland of Tennessee 8-5.

The Wildcat trio will be back in action tomorrow in singles consolation play.
