Women's Golf

(Oct. 8, 2000) — The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished ninth at the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend, October 6-8. Leading the way for the Kats was sophomore Kelly Anders, who finished tied for 16th place with a three-round total of 231.

Duke took top honors this weekend with a commanding performance on the fairways, leading its closest competition by 19 strokes. The Blue Devils shot 30-under-par 894 in its unprecedented performance. Two Devils tied for top individual honors as Candy Hannemann and Leigh Anne Hardin each posted final tallies of 4-over-par 220 in their weekend efforts.

Other Kentucky scores include junior Kristen Pepe, who finished tied for 26th with a score of 236 and junior Towa Okiyama, whose tally of 239 was good enough to tie her for 36th place. Rounding out the UK lineup were sophomore Rachel Lester with a score of 241 and senior Jenny Throgmorton, who tallied a 250 en route to a tie for 76th.

The Lady Kats are back in action on Friday, Oct. 13, when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Tennessee Women’s Intercollegiate Tournament.
