AKRON, Ohio (Oct. 6, 2000) — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Akron, 2-0, on October 6.

UK dominated the game offensively out-shooting Akron 26-9, but the Zips (4-4-3, 2-1-0 MAC) went on top early in the 15th minute when Orjan Bjaneso took a short pass near the goal from Tim Cooper and scored the game-winner with his second goal of the season to go up 1-0.

The Cats (6-5-0, 2-1-0 MAC) nearly tied the game in the 21st minute with a header off of a corner kick. The ball was just high, hitting the crossbar, but nearly went in as it fell straight down. Unfortunately for UK, it fell on the wrong side of the goal line and was cleared by Akron.

UK had a number of chances on the night but was never able to find the net. In the 86th minute, Akron added an insurance goal when Bjaneso scored his second of the night. The Cats argued that an offside should have been called on the Zips, but the goal was good.

The Cats return to action when they travel New York to face the Buffalo Bulls on Friday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m.
