(Sept. 28, 2000) — The University of Kentucky women’s golf team will open its 2000-01 schedule on September 29, when it begins play in the 2000 Southeastern Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Invitational Shootout in Destin, Fla. The tournament, played at Raven Golf Club, continues through Sunday.
This one-of-a-kind event will match four teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (plus Furman and Miami) against six teams from the Southeastern Conference in a 54-hole tournament.
Other teams competing in the event include Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina from the SEC, and Florida State, North Carolina, N.C. State and Wake Forest from the ACC.
The format will use the lowest four scores of each team to arrive at a daily total. The final three-day totals will determine the individual, team and conference champion. The Challenge Cup trophy will be presented to the champion, which will be housed at the winning conference’s office. The Wildcats return all but three of last year’s members, including sophomore Towa Okiyama, who leads all returners with a stroke average of 79.48.
