The University of Kentucky womens tennis doubles team of Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Wittenbounced back from an early loss in the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships tobecome the consolation doubles champions on Sunday.

Mayorga, a junior from Bogota, Columbia, and Witten, a sophomore for Naples, Fla., breezedthrough the consolation bracket without dropping a set. The 11th-ranked duos run was cappedoff when they routed 40th-ranked Julie DeRoo and Mira Radu of Ole Miss 6-0, 6-2in the finals.

“There was a very high level of execution out there today,” Coach Mark Guilbeausaid. “It is great to pick up a big win like this on the national level and I think it is asign of things to come.”

The womens tennis team will be back in action on Sept. 29, when they travel toMadison, Wis., to take part in the University of Wisconsin team tournament. It willbe the first team competition of the season for the UK squad.
