University of Kentucky womens tennis player Carolina Mayorga will represent the Wildcats inthe main draw of the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships in Baltimore.

Mayorga earned a spot in the final round of the Grand Slam event by defeating three opponents inthe qualifying round on Wednesday. The Bogota, Columbia native came back from being down 4-0 todefeat Pilar Montgomery of Penn State 9-7 in her first match. In the second round, the junior TennisCat downed Emily Marker of Wisconsin 8-4, before advancing to the main draw after a third round 8-4victory over Lenka Zacharova of Weber State. Mayorga will be the first UK player to make the finalround of 32 competitors in over 10 years.

Mayorga will face off against No. 2 seed Jahnavi Parekh of Baylor in the first round of the maindraw tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Mayorga, along with teammate Sarah Witten, comprise the country’s 11th-ranked doubles teamand will also play in the main draw of the doubles competition, which consists of 16 teams. Joining themin the round of 16 will be fellow UK doubles squad Brooke Skeen and Leigh Bradwell, the nation’s45th-ranked team. UK is the only school with two doubles teams in the final round of the championship.

Both duos will be in action tomorrow at 3:30 a.m. Skeen and Bradwell will go head-to-head withthe nations top-ranked doubles pair, Paolo Palencia and Epek Senoglu of Pepperdine while Mayorgaand Witten will take on 20th-ranked Ashleigh Dolman and Maria Galoustova of Oklahoma State.
