CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2000) — The University of Kentucky mens soccer team dropped its third game of the season in a 2-1 loss to UNC Greensboro in the opening round of the Nike Carolina Classic on Friday, September 15.

The winning goal for the Spartans (2-3-0) came when Alejandro Moreno headed in a cross pass in the 55th minute to take a 2-0 lead, giving him his fourth goal in five games.

UK (2-3-0) pulled within one about six minutes later when Ryan Grady received a loft pass by Brent Rainey, got past the defense and beat the goal keeper for his first goal of the season and the fifth in his career.

However, the Cats could get no closer. Even though they were able to attack much more effectively the rest of the way, they were unable to find the nets.

UK has little time to rest as they face North Carolina in the Classics closing match on Saturday, Sept. 16. The Tar Heels are ranked No. 25 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and No. 15 by Soccer America magazine.

The match will be the first between the two schools and action gets underway at Fetzer Field on the campus of the University of North Carolina at 7:30 p.m.
