Women's Soccer

(Sept. 10, 2000) — The 16th ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team shut out Ohio University, 4-0, on Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Shafer Street Field in Athens, Ohio. The win marks the 100th career win for UK coach Warren Lipka. Kentucky improves to 2-0 in the series and notches its second shutout of the season.

After a scoreless first half, Kentucky (5-1, 1-0 SEC) opened its eventual blowout in the second half with an Elizabeth Ramsey goal in the 69th minute. Ramsey got the goal off a rebound from four yards out and took a season- and UK career game-high eight shots. This is Ramsey’s third goal of the season and second of the weekend. Kate Qually scored next for the Wildcats, in the 77th minute, with a header into the corner of the net from Lauren Russell. Qually took six shots on the day, also a season and UK career game-high.

In the 85th minute, Ramsey was back in action, with an assist on Kara McCue’s break-away goal. Jen Wilkinson also assisted on the goal, which was McCue’s first of her UK career. The final goal came in the 89th minute as Alli Haeussler took the ball off two quick passes from Annie Gage and Keri Boyce and found the net from 10 yards out. The goal was Haeussler’s first career goal. Boyce took seven shots in the game, which was a season and UK career game high for her too. Defender Emily Oetjen also got into the shooting frenzy with a season-high five shots on goal for the day, tying her UK career game-high shots. Oetjen took 38 shots on goal last season.

Ohio’s (2-3) top performer was goalkeeper Vanessa Dennis with 17 saves. The Bobcats took only two shots, while the Cats took a record-tying 44. Kentucky also recorded 44 shots on goal in 1992.

Next up for UK is Xavier University at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
