Men's Soccer

The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team travels to East Lansing, Mich., to face the Spartans ofMichigan State on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m.

The Cats will take the field for their third and last exhibition game of the preseason after notchingshutout wins over Dayton and Wright State. This will be the first game for MSU and the first meetingbetween the two teams.

UK is led in goal by Brian O’Leary. Through the first two exhibitions, O’Leary has faced 21 shots withsix saves while the offense has done well to control the ball. Ilkka Jantti, Giovanni Fernandes, and MarcTheriault have scored goals for the Cats. Freshmen Logan LeCompte and Savvas Theofilou, along withsophomore Brian Mitts, have contributed assists.

The Spartans completed the 1999 campaign with a 9-9-1 record and fifth-place Big Ten finish. MSUis led by senior John Benoist, who scored six goals with one assist in 1999. He became only the fourthSpartan in school history to be named to the All-Big Ten first team and was also named third-teamAll-Mideast Region.

The Cats begin the regular season at Louisville on Friday, Sept. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
