The University of Kentucky mens soccer team topped Wright State 2-0 Wednesday,Aug. 23, at the UK Soccer Complex.

The Cats wasted little time getting on the board when Marc Theriault knocked a penaltykick past the Raiders goalkeeper in the 14th minute. Less than 12 minutes later, GiovanniFernandes took a cross-field pass from Savvas Theofilou blasting the ball into the net to set thefinal margin.

Although UK did not score again, they did maintain control of the ball throughout the matchkeeping it in the Wright State end of the field most of the night. The Cats outshot the Raiders 8-2while leading in corner kicks, 8-0.

Kentucky goalkeeper Brian OLeary needed only two saves to collect his second shutoutin as many outings this preseason.

At times, there was some first rate soccer, head coach Ian Collins said. The creativeflow was really good, and in the final third of the field, we had some outstanding combinations.Were going to continue to work harder every day to get better and better.

UK winds down its preseason action when the Cats head to Michigan State to face the Spartanson Sunday, Aug. 27, at 1:00 p.m.
