(Aug. 23, 2000) — The College Swim Coaches Association of America has ranked the University of Kentucky’s swimming and diving teams in the Top-30 nationally for academics. The women’s swim team is ranked 17th with a grade point average of 3.291, while the men are ranked 27th with a 2.892 GPA. Both teams are the highest ranking in the Southeastern Conference.
Receiving individual honors for the women were Jaime Siegele and Carolyn Rader, ranking in the Top 50 with a 3.50 GPA. David Tweedie ranked 11th due to his 3.76 GPA.
“We have a very serious commitment to academics here at UK. It is the No. 1 reason that the student-athletes are here-for a good education,” Coach Gary Conelly said. “It pleases the coaching staff and the athletics department that our swimmers are performing well in the classroom as well as the water.”
