Senior finishes 21st in 50-meter freestyle.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 16, 2000) — University of Kentucky senior Annabel Kosten recorded a21stplace finish in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.73 on Thursday morningat the 2000 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.Kosten was the highest finishing Wildcat on Thursday for UK. Sophomore CarolynRader recorded a 22nd place finish in the 400 freestyle with a time of4:14.00.

Junior standout Melissa Olson placed 23rd in the 200 individual medley,finishing in a time of 2:15.96.

Carrie Knoeber, competing in her first NCAA Championships, finished 32nd on the1-meter diving event with a score of, sixty points less than her score at theZone “B” meet last weekend at Auburn.

“I thought for us it was real good,” UK coach Gary Conelly said. “Usually theyhave killed themselves to get here and are on their second or third taper. Welooked real sharp and we were not too far out of qualifying in events thataren’t our best. I think the kids are looking really good heading into Fridayand Saturday.”

This is the first year the NCAA Swimming Championships have used the shortcourse meters racing course as opposed to the 25-yard course.Preliminaries on Friday and Saturday will begin at 11 a.m. with finals set for7 p.m. Complete meet results can be found on the internet atwww.ncaachampionships.com.
