Five athletes capture first-place titles at Florida Relays.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 26, 1999) — The University of Kentucky track and field teamended the first day of the 56th Annual Coca-Cola Florida Relays with tenathletes finishing in the top five of their events and five athletes capturingfirst-place titles. In the 4×100-meter relay, the Kentucky women finished infirst place with a time of 46.02.
In the long jump, Valerie Williams and Shevan Threats finished in first andsecond place, respectively. Williams leaped 19 feet, 10.75 inches, whileThreats jumped 19-05.5. Threats also finished fourth in the triple jump,leaping 38-02.75.
In other field events, Beth Burkett finished in fifth place in the javelin throw,throwing the apparatus 135-10.
In other running events, Jennifer Kehoe and Brad Beiber both placed fifth intheir respective 5,000-meter runs with times of 17:39.06 and 15:10.91.
The competition resumes Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Percy BeardTrack Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
