Wildcats Fourth after Day Three.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (February 19, 1999) — The University of Kentucky women’s swimming anddiving team remains in fourth place after day three of the SoutheasternConference championships at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on the UKcampus.
Rachel Komisarz, who claimed the 500 freestyle crown on Thursday, cameup just short in her bid to capture the 200 free title, finishing second, less thanfour tenths of a second behind champion Rada Owen of Auburn.
UK’s Melissa Olson and Annabel Kosten also made strong showings for theCats, as Olson finished fourth in the 400 individual medley and Kosten tookninth in the 100 butterfly.
While UK currently stands fourth, the Cat women like their chances ofbreaking into the SEC’s top three for the first time in school history.
“Saturday should be a good day,” assistant coach Leslie Ramsey said.”Some of our best events are still to come.”
On the men’s side, the Cats fell to eighth after the day’s events. Macon Whitewas UK’s top finisher on the day, winning the consolation final in the 200free to take seventh place. Kyle McDuffie and Aaron Kirkpatrick also putpoints on the board for the Cats, as the pair finished 10th an 13th,respectively, in three-meter springboard competition.
Heading into the final day of the championships, the Auburn men andGeorgia women continue to lead the team competitions by commandingmargins.
Preliminaries start Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with the finals set to begin at 6:30p.m.
