Men’s soccer squad improves to 10-8, 6-1 in MAC.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 29, 1998) — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer teampicked up another Mid-American Conference win on Thursday, downingMiami (OH) 3-2 at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Redhawks (4-14, 1-7 MAC) struck first, when Jon Holfinger’s cornerkick ricocheted into the net in the 35th minute. UK countered early in thesecond half when Tyler Cook found the net in the 51st minute to even thescore at 1-1. But just 17 seconds later, Miami’s Craig Cochran tipped homea cross to give MU a 2-1 lead.
The Cats would rally once again, as Johnny Hinds’ through-ball gave RyanGrady a one-on-one with MU keeper Michael Hickey in the 60th minute.Grady’s shot found the net just inside the far post and tied the score at 2-2.Then in the 66th minute, Tyler Cook blasted an Ilkka Jantti cross into theMU goal to give UK the 3-2 win.
With the win, UK improves to 10-8 and 6-1 in the MAC. The Cats hit thefield again on Sunday, as Northern Illinois (11-2-1, 5-2 MAC) travels toLexington for another MAC showdown. It will be Senior Day at the UKSoccer Complex, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
